Okay, so today I messed around with this “Sarkisian” thing. I’d heard some buzz about it, so I figured, why not give it a shot? Here’s how it went down.

First, I dug around to even figure out what it actually was. Turns out, we’re talking about a particular offensive play style. So, I started by watching some videos. Lots of videos. I mean, I basically spent the whole morning just soaking it in.
Then, I tried to break it down. Like, what are the key elements? What makes it tick? I scribbled down some notes, trying to get a handle on the formations, the player movements, all that stuff. It felt a bit like learning a new language, to be honest.
After that, I jumped into some practice. No, I didn’t actually run any plays on a real field! I used to draw up playbooks in my notebooks. It’s kinda crude, but it helps me visualize things.
- First, I focused on the basic formations. Get those down solid.
- Next, I added in the player movements. Where does everyone go? Who’s blocking, who’s running, who’s the target?
- Then, I started to think about the variations. There’s not just one way to do this, right?
It was a lot of trial and error. I’d draw something up, then realize it wouldn’t work, then erase it and start over. Over and over. My notebook looks like a battlefield by now.
Finally, I felt like I had a somewhat decent grasp on it. I mean, I’m not going to be coaching any teams anytime soon, but I at least understand the basic concepts. It’s definitely a complex system, but it’s also pretty cool to see how it all comes together.
That is what I did today.
