This here LIV Golf thing, they say it’s some kinda new golf, fancy golf. Well, I seen it on the TV, and I gotta say, it ain’t nothin’ special. Just a bunch of fellas whackin’ a ball around, same as always. But they keep talkin’ about the LIV Golf ratings, how many folks is watchin’. I guess that’s important to them, I don’t know.
They was on that CW thing, you know, the TV channel. My granddaughter, she watches her shows on there. They said this here LIV Golf was on there for the first time, a big deal, on real broadcast tv. They had some tournament in Vegas, right before that big football game, that Super Bowl thing. Heard some folks sayin’ it was a big deal. Some folks talk about this LIV Golf ratings are up and some folks say it down.
- They said only 297,000 folks watched that Vegas one.
- Last year, a different one, 274,000 watched, that was the Arizona tournament, they say.
- Then they went to Saudi Arabia, and only 195,000 watched.
Now, that don’t sound like a whole lot to me. My neighbor’s cat had more babies than that, and nobody made a fuss. But these golf folks, they worry about these LIV Golf ratings like it’s the end of the world. I heard a few folks at the local bar say this LIV Golf ratings are important to their future. Maybe, maybe not.
They keep comparin’ it to that other golf, the PGA Tour, I think it’s called. Seems like that one’s been around forever. My husband, bless his soul, he used to watch that all the time. He’d yell at the TV somethin’ fierce. The PGA tour seems like the big guy in the field now, and LIV Golf is trying to get some attention from the people.
I heard on the news, they said this PGA Tour, it gets millions watchin’. Millions! Like, 2.42 million folks. That’s a whole lot more than that LIV Golf. These numbers, that LIV Golf ratings is way down below the PGA Tour. I can’t keep track with all these numbers, all these LIV Golf ratings and PGA tour ratings.
This one fella, Nielsen, he’s the one keepin’ track of all these numbers, I reckon. He’s like the scorekeeper for the whole country watchin’ TV. They say his numbers is the truth. So if he says LIV Golf ain’t gettin’ many viewers, well, then I guess it ain’t. This Nielsen guy, he knows everything about the LIV Golf ratings and the PGA tour ratings.
They also said this PGA Tour, their numbers been droppin’ too. Down 19%, whatever that means. Still, they got way more folks watchin’ than this LIV Golf. Seems this LIV Golf is having trouble to catch up with the PGA tour. They are trying hard, but their LIV Golf ratings just can not reach the PGA tour.
They had this other tournament, the Honda Classic, sounds like a car tournament to me. Don’t know much about that one, gotta wait for more numbers, they say. I don’t know how much people like this Honda Classic, but their ratings are important to them, too.
I seen on the news that this PGA Tour, on that CBS channel, they got almost 2 million folks watchin’ on a Saturday. That’s a lot of eyeballs. This LIV Golf, on that same Saturday, only got 168,000. But then on Sunday, they got 432,000. Still nothin’ compared to the PGA tour, but it’s somethin’, I suppose. Seems they are doing better than last year, but the LIV Golf ratings is not good enough to compare with the PGA Tour.
They say these numbers is important. They tell ya how many folks is really interested in this new golf. I guess if nobody’s watchin’, then they ain’t gonna keep puttin’ it on TV. The LIV Golf ratings will tell us if it is a good game or not. That is what the folks say.
I don’t know. Golf is golf, far as I can tell. You hit the ball, you chase it, you hit it again. Maybe these young folks like this LIV Golf, with all their fancy rules and such. But for me, I’ll stick to my stories, thank you very much. I am not interested in this LIV Golf ratings or PGA tour ratings. I have other things to do.
But, hey, if you like watchin’ it, that’s fine by me. Just don’t expect me to understand all this fuss about LIV Golf ratings and all that. It’s just a game, after all. Just a game, and people make too much fuss about the LIV Golf ratings.
