So, I decided I needed a Dale Murphy card for the collection. Been thinking about it for a while. Murphy, you know, Braves legend. Just felt like the right time to finally track one down.

First thing, I had to figure out which one. There are tons, obviously. I wasn’t looking for anything super rare or expensive, just a nice, classic Murphy card. Maybe something from his peak years, like the early 80s. I started digging through some old boxes first, you know, just in case I already had one tucked away somewhere. No luck there, just a bunch of commons I forgot about.
Then I went online. Spent a good bit of time just browsing different marketplaces and forums where people sell cards. It’s crazy how many options pop up. You see the same card listed for wildly different prices. Some looked pretty beat up, others were graded but asking way too much, at least for what I wanted.
The search got a bit frustrating. I found a few candidates, mostly the standard Topps or Donruss ones from ’82 or ’83. I put a few on a watch list, trying to decide. Some sellers had terrible pictures, you couldn’t even tell the condition properly. You know how it is, you don’t want to buy something blind.
Checked a couple of local card shops too. Went down to that place over on Main Street, and the other one near the mall. They had some Murphy stuff, but either not the specific years I was kinda hoping for, or they were part of bigger, more expensive lots. Didn’t really want to buy a whole bunch of stuff just for one card.
Finally, back online, I spotted one. It was a Topps card, looked clean in the pictures, decent centering, corners looked sharp enough. The price was reasonable, not dirt cheap, but fair. The seller seemed okay, had decent feedback from other buyers. So, I decided to pull the trigger. Went through the checkout process, paid up, and then the waiting game started.
Took about a week to arrive. Came in a padded envelope, tucked inside a semi-rigid holder. Gotta say, I was pretty pleased when I got it out. Looked just like the pictures, maybe even a bit better in person. No major creases or dings. Just a solid Dale Murphy card from his MVP days.
So yeah, that was the process. A bit of hunting, some scrolling, a little bit of waiting, but got the card I was after. Feels good to add it to the binder. Simple as that, really. Another successful little mission.
