Okay, so I wanted to mess around with creating character builds for Baldur’s Gate 3. I’d seen some cool builds online, and I thought, “Why not try making my own little tool to plan things out?” That’s how I started looking into this whole “bg3 builder site” thing.

First, I just started by searching around. I mean, who needs to reinvent the wheel, right? I figured there had to be something out there already. I looked at some other, and I wanted to learn and copy from them.
Digging into Existing Stuff
I spent a good chunk of time just clicking around, playing with existing BG3 builders. Saw what features they had, how they handled things like classes, subclasses, feats, all that jazz. I took notes of things I liked (and things I didn’t!). It was more about getting a feel for what was possible.
My Simple, Crude Start
- I started. I made plain little boxes. For, like, the character’s name, race, class. Really basic stuff.
- Then add features. I make level up system,I can choose spells and other.
- I keep it simple. I don’t want be a professional developer.I want to make my bg3 builder.
It was super rough, but it was mine. I could pick a class, see the starting stats, and… well, that was about it. But it was a start!
Realizing the Complexity
This is where I started to realize how much goes into a proper character builder. It’s not just about showing some stats! You’ve got:
- Level progression: How does a character change as they level up?
- Subclasses: Those branch out at certain levels, adding more choices.
- Feats: Gotta figure out when those become available and what prerequisites they have.
- Spells: Oh boy, the spell lists! Different classes get different spells at different levels. It’s a whole thing.
I realized I wanted to add a simple level-up system. You click a button, the character’s level goes up, and you see what new features they get. I managed to get a basic version of that working, but it was still very limited.
I added system,and I can choose spells,but I can’t save it!So I realized that’s too complex.
The (Current) End Result
Honestly, my “builder site” is still more of a “builder mess” at this point. It’s a fun little project that lets me visualize some aspects of a character build, but it’s nowhere near a complete tool. I can pick a class, choose spells, and kind of see how things progress. It’s definitely taught me a lot about how much work goes into these things!
Maybe someday I’ll turn it into something more polished, but for now, it’s just a fun way to learn and experiment. And hey, it helps me plan out my next overpowered BG3 character, so that’s a win in my book!
