Okay, so today I decided to tackle a crossword puzzle with the clue “the one to beat.” Let me tell you, it wasn’t as straightforward as I initially thought!

First, I grabbed my favorite pen and printed out the crossword. I always prefer working on paper – it just feels more… authentic, you know? Then, I scanned the whole puzzle, looking for any easy answers to get me started. You gotta build that momentum!
My Solving Process
- I started by filling in the obvious ones – the short words, the ones I knew right away. This helps to create some anchors in the puzzle.
- Next, I focused on the intersections. Where words cross, you get extra clues! If you can figure out one word, it gives you letters for the connecting words.
- This “the one to beat” clue… I stared at it for a good while. My mind was blank. I tried thinking of synonyms: champion, top dog, leader… nothing clicked.
- Then and think what I was * am I doing? It’s find a word that means “the one to beat”.
- I decided to move on and come back to it later. Sometimes your brain needs a break to work on things subconsciously.
- After filling in more of the surrounding clues, I had a few letters in place for the “the one to beat” answer. It was something like “_ P _ _ E _”.
- It means the one who need to beat.A lot of letters appeared in the “_ P _ _ E _”.
- Suddenly, it hit me! The word was “FRONTER”. I have to say,i never heard it before.
It felt great to finally crack that clue! Sometimes you just need to walk away for a bit and let your brain do its thing. Crosswords are all about patience and persistence, I guess.
