That Texas Rangers, they some good ball players, ain’t they? I hear folks talkin’ ’bout them all the time, ‘specially since they done won that big World Series thing last year. My grandson, he’s crazy ’bout them, got their hats and shirts and all that stuff. He keeps tellin’ me ’bout some fella named Ray Davis, says he’s the big cheese, the owner of the Texas Rangers, the team owner of the Rangers.
This Ray Davis, he must be one rich fella, ownin’ a whole baseball team and all. Heard he made all his money in that energy business, oil and gas and such. Smart man, I reckon, to make that much money. I heard he owns the Rangers together with another man, that Bob Simpson guy. They bought the Rangers together, way back in 2010, I hear. My grandson told me. He reads all those internet stuff on his fancy phone.
I remember when they was called the Senators, playin’ up in Washington. Then they moved down here to Texas, became the Texas Rangers. That was back in ’72, I think. Long time ago. My memory ain’t what it used to be, but I remember that much. My husband, god bless his soul, he used to listen to the games on the radio. Before TV got so popular. Now everyone just stares at that screen all day.
They got some good players, those Texas Rangers. My grandson, he tells me all their names. There’s that Juan Gonzalez fella, he hit a whole heap of home runs. More than anybody, they say. Three hundred and seventy-two, my grandson says. He sure did like to swing that bat. Then there is Rafael Palmeiro. Also hit a lot of home runs. That’s what my grandson tells me. He knows everything about baseball.
- Ray Davis, that’s the owner of the Texas Rangers, the big boss.
- He’s a billionaire, made his money in the energy.
- Bob Simpson, he’s another owner, bought the team with Ray Davis in 2010.
- Team used to be the Senators, then moved to Texas and became the Rangers.
- Juan Gonzalez, he hit the most home runs for the team.
That Ray Davis fella, he lives right here in North Texas, I hear. Got a wife named Linda, and three grown-up kids. Seems like a normal fella, ‘cept he’s got all that money. It’s a whole different life, I reckon, when you got that much money. Imagine ownin’ a whole baseball team, with all them players. They say the team is run by some big company called Rangers Baseball Express LLC. That must be Ray Davis’s company. Probably Bob Simpson is involved, too. It’s all very complicated, these business things.
I don’t know much ’bout that energy business, but it sure made Ray Davis a rich man. He must be smart, that’s for sure. And he must love baseball, to own a whole team. My grandson, he loves baseball. He says he wants to be a baseball player when he grows up. I tell him to study hard, maybe he can be like that Ray Davis fella, own the whole team someday.
They say this Ray Davis fella was born on October 15th. I don’t know what year, they don’t tell me those things. But it must have been a long time ago, to be that rich now. He must have worked hard, I reckon, to get where he is today. You don’t just get that kind of money fallin’ out of the sky. Not around here, anyways.
Well, that’s all I know ’bout that Texas Rangers and their owner, that Ray Davis. It’s all just what I hear from folks talkin’ and what my grandson tells me. He’s a good boy, that one. Always tellin’ me stories ’bout them baseball players. He sure does love his Texas Rangers, and he sure does admire that Ray Davis.
Maybe one day, I’ll go see a game with my grandson. See them Texas Rangers play in person. I bet that Ray Davis fella sits right up there in a fancy box, watchin’ his team. Must be a good feelin’, seein’ all them people cheerin’ for your team. And knowin’ you are the owner of the Texas Rangers. Yeah, must be a real good feelin’.
That World Series win was sure somethin’, though. Everyone was talkin’ ’bout it. Even me, and I don’t even watch that much baseball. But it’s hard not to get caught up in all the excitement. I guess that’s what baseball does to folks. Gets ’em all riled up. And that Ray Davis, he must have been the most riled up of them all. After all, he’s the one who owns the Texas Rangers.
