Alright, let’s talk about this Patrick Young fella. Heard tell he was a basketball player, a real good one, they say. Played for them Gators, back in the day. Folks seemed to like him a whole heap.

Now, I ain’t no sports expert, mind you. Don’t know a slam dunk from a chicken pluck. But I heard this story, and it just stuck with me, like gum on a shoe. This poor young man, Patrick, he had a real bad accident. A car crash, they say. Happened last year, sometime in June.
- Heard it was in Nebraska.
- Just him in the car, nobody else.
- Car flipped over, real bad.
And that’s when everything changed for Patrick. See, that accident, it messed him up somethin’ awful. Left him paralyzed, they say. Means he can’t move his body, not like he used to. Imagine that, bein’ so strong and active, runnin’ and jumpin’, and then, poof, it’s all gone. Makes you think, don’t it?
Folks were real upset, you know. All them Gator fans, they sent their prayers and well wishes. Folks who knew him, they talked about how kind he was, how he always had a smile for everyone. It’s a shame, a real shame. To see a young fella like that, struck down in his prime. Life’s a funny thing, ain’t it? One minute you’re on top of the world, the next you’re…well, you ain’t.
Now, I heard he played ball for a good while. From 2010 to 2014, they say. Even played overseas, for a bit, after that. Traveled all over, I reckon. Seein’ the world, doin’ what he loved. Must’ve been a grand time.
But then, that accident. It just makes you wonder, why do bad things happen to good people? Don’t seem fair, does it? Here’s a young man, full of life, and then, bam, it’s all taken away. Leaves you scratchin’ your head, tryin’ to make sense of it all.
I ain’t got no answers, mind you. Just an old woman, sharin’ what I heard. But this story, it got to me. Made me think about how precious life is, how quick things can change. Makes you appreciate what you got, that’s for sure. Makes you wanna hold your loved ones a little tighter.
This Patrick Young, he’s got a long road ahead of him, I reckon. Rehabilitation, they call it. Tryin’ to get better, tryin’ to learn to live with his new reality. It ain’t gonna be easy, that’s for sure. But from what I hear, he’s got a lot of folks supportin’ him. Family, friends, fans…they’re all rootin’ for him.
And that’s somethin’, ain’t it? To have people care about you, to have people in your corner, even when things are tough. That’s what gets you through, I reckon. That and a whole lotta grit and determination. And somethin’ tells me, this Patrick Young, he’s got plenty of both.

So, we’ll keep him in our thoughts and prayers, won’t we? Hope he gets better, hope he finds peace. Hope he can still find joy in life, even if it’s different now. Cause at the end of the day, that’s all that really matters, ain’t it? Findin’ a little bit of happiness, wherever you can.
This whole thing, it just reminds you. Life’s a precious thing, so don’t take nothin’ for granted. Cherish every moment, love your people, and be thankful for what you got. Cause you never know what tomorrow might bring. That’s the truth, plain and simple.
Now, I gotta go make some supper. But I wanted to share this story with you. This story about Patrick Young, the basketball player who got hurt. It’s a sad story, but it’s also a story about strength, and resilience, and the power of the human spirit. And that’s somethin’ worth rememberin’, don’t you think?
So, the next time you see a Gator basketball game, or hear someone talkin’ about Patrick Young, you remember this story. You remember the young fella who lost so much, but who ain’t given up. You remember the power of hope, and the importance of kindness. And you remember to be thankful for all the good things in your own life.
That’s all I got to say. Now go on, git outta here, and go make the most of your day.
