Alright, so today I’m gonna talk about something kinda cool: Heisman winners from OU (Oklahoma University). I mean, who doesn’t love a good football story, right?

It all started last week when I was just chilling, watching some old college football highlights on YouTube. I stumbled upon a clip of Baker Mayfield, the dude was electric! That got me thinking, “How many Heisman winners has OU actually had?” So, naturally, I dove down the rabbit hole.
First, I fired up Google, of course. Just typed in “OU Heisman winners.” Pretty straightforward. I got a list, but you know how the internet is – some sites were kinda janky, missing info, or just plain wrong. So, I decided to cross-reference a few different sources.
I started making a list on a notepad. Yeah, old school, I know. But it helps me keep track of everything. I listed the player’s name, the year they won, and their position. I found some sites listed stats too, so I jotted those down as well. Like, how many passing yards, touchdowns, that kinda stuff.
Then, I wanted to dig deeper. Just knowing their names wasn’t enough. I wanted to know their stories. What made them special? So, I searched for articles and documentaries about each player. This took a while, I’m not gonna lie. Some of these guys played decades ago, so the info wasn’t always easy to find.
I found some really cool stuff though. Like, Billy Vessels, the first OU Heisman winner. The guy was a war hero! And then there’s Steve Owens, a beast of a fullback. And of course, the recent ones like Sam Bradford and Kyler Murray. Each of them had their own unique path to the Heisman.
To make it easier to understand, I organized my notes into a simple table. Name, Year, Position, Key Stats, and a brief summary of their story. This helped me visualize the whole thing and see the patterns and differences between these legendary players.
After that, I decided to make it a bit more presentable. I used a simple text editor to create a Markdown file. You know, headings, bullet points, and all that jazz. I even added some links to the articles and videos I found, just in case anyone wanted to do their own research.
Finally, I shared my findings with my buddies who are also huge college football fans. They were pretty impressed! We ended up having a long discussion about OU’s football history and the legacy of these Heisman winners.
All in all, it was a fun little project. It started with a simple question and ended with a deeper appreciation for the history of OU football. Plus, I learned a few new things along the way. And hey, who knows, maybe I’ll do this for another team next time!
