Okay, so the other day I was just clicking around, you know how it is, and somehow the names Rory McIlroy and Caroline Wozniacki popped up. It took me back a bit, remember when they were like, THE sports power couple? Yeah, quite a while ago now.
It got me curious, so I decided to refresh my memory on what actually went down there. Started searching a bit, just typing their names into the search bar, seeing what came up. Found a bunch of old news bits and articles from way back when.
The Beginning Bit
My digging reminded me they got together around 2011. Made sense, right? Top golfer, top tennis player. They were everywhere for a while, showing up at each other’s events, all over the place. Seemed like a big deal at the time, very high profile. Young, successful, looked good together – the whole package.
Then Came the Engagement
Then I remembered the engagement. That was New Year’s Eve, going into 2014, I think? Put a ring on it, posted pictures. Everyone thought, okay, here we go, sports royalty wedding coming up. Wedding invitations apparently even went out. That’s what some reports I read were saying.
And Then… The Big Split
This is the part that really stuck out when I was looking back. It all came crashing down super fast. Like, really fast. Just a few months after the engagement, boom, it was over. And the way it happened was pretty rough, based on what I read.
I recall reading Caroline herself said later that he ended it over a phone call. A very short phone call, apparently. After the invitations were sent out! Man, that’s cold. Can you imagine? Everything’s set, you’re planning a wedding, and then that happens. Wild.
Looking through the timeline, it seemed Rory put out a statement pretty quick saying he realized he wasn’t ready for marriage. Happened right after those invites went out. Rough timing, just really rough.
Moving On
