Alright, guys, so I’ve been messing around with Mortal Kombat 9 again, and I decided to finally make a tier list. It’s something I’ve been putting off, but I finally dove in. Here’s how it went down.

Getting Started
First, I fired up the game. It’s been a while, so I needed to refresh my memory. I jumped into practice mode and started cycling through the characters. I spent a good hour just re-familiarizing myself with everyone’s moves and combos.
Feeling the Characters Out
After the practice session, I felt ready to start some real matches. I hopped online and played a bunch of ranked games. Man, it was a mixed bag! I got my butt kicked a few times, but I also dished out some serious punishment. I really focused on how each character felt in a real fight. You know, how easy were their combos to pull off? How much damage did they do? Could they zone effectively, or were they better up close?
Taking Notes
While I was playing, I kept a notepad next to me. Every few matches, I’d jot down some quick thoughts. Stuff like “Kabal feels super strong,” or “Sonya’s zoning is kinda weak.” This helped me keep track of my initial impressions, instead of just relying on memory. It also helped me stay on topic.
The Ranking Process
Once I felt like I had a good handle on everyone, I started actually building the list. I used a simple S, A, B, C, D system.
- S: These guys are the beasts. Easy to win with, powerful, the whole package.
- A: Really strong, but maybe have one or two small weaknesses.
- B: Solid, middle-of-the-pack characters.
- C: They have some potential, but they’re harder to use effectively.
- D: Oof, these guys are tough to win with.
I spent a lot of time moving characters around. It was tough! Like, at first, I thought Cyrax was A-tier, but after thinking about it more, I bumped him down to B. His bombs are good, but he struggles against rushdown characters.
Final Touches
After a few hours of tinkering, I finally had something I was happy with. It’s not perfect, and it’s definitely just my opinion, but it’s a solid starting point. It will be good for me to compare after further battles.
