Alright, so I was messing around with this idea for “striper jokes,” and I figured I’d just jot down how the whole thing went. It started pretty simply, honestly.

First, I brainstormed. Just sat down with a notepad and thought, “Okay, what’s funny about stripers?” I mean, besides the obvious, you know? I came up with a bunch of random stuff, some of it totally dumb, some of it kinda clever (in my humble opinion).
Then, I typed them all up. Because, who can keep track of jokes in their head? Not me. I just used a simple text editor. Nothing fancy.
- Joke about their stripes being like a barcode.
- Something about them always being in a “school” (get it?).
- A really bad pun about them being “fin-tastic.” (Yeah, I know, I cringed too).
Next, I tried them out. My wife and kids are pretty used to my weird projects, I read the jokes to the family. They were, uh, not impressed. The barcode one got a courtesy chuckle. The “school” one got a groan. The “fin-tastic” one… well, let’s just say I’m not quitting my day job.
So, I revised. Back to the drawing board. Scratched out some of the worst offenders. Tried to punch up the others. Added a few new ones based on the (very limited) feedback I got.
This went on for a while, a few iterative efforts. A cycle of writing, testing, failing miserably, and trying again. It’s kind of like fishing, actually. Lots of waiting, occasional nibbles of success, and a whole lot of disappointment.
The key is iterative efforts. You gotta keep doing it to get the result.
The Final Result?
Well, I’m not sure I’ve got a killer set of striper jokes yet. But I’ve got a few that are… okay. They might get a chuckle at a fishing convention, maybe. Or at least a pity laugh. I guess every hobby has its awkward moments, right? It’s about the process, and the fun, and the sharing.
