Okay, so I’ve been trying to get my golf swing speed up. I’m no pro, but I wanted to see how I stacked up against the guys on the PGA Tour. I heard they swing it fast, so I figured I’d do some digging and then try to actually measure my own speed.

My “Research” (aka Googling)
First, I did what anyone would do – I hit up Google. I just typed in “average club speed PGA Tour” and started reading. I found a few articles and forum posts that talked about it. Nothing super scientific, just some general numbers.
The key thing, apparently average driver club head speed on the PGA Tour is somewhere north of 110 mph. Some said 113, 115, all above 110. I wasn’t super concerned with the exact number, more just the ballpark.
Getting My Hands Dirty
So I found a few golf information websites showing the average club speed, and I made a note:
- Average Driver Club Head Speed: 113-115 mph (from the websites).
Knowing the PGA Tour average is one thing, but what about my speed? I don’t have any fancy equipment, but I do have access to a local driving range with a basic launch monitor. It’s not the most accurate thing in the world, but it gives you a rough idea.
I warmed up (very important!), and then I started hitting some drives, trying to swing as hard as I comfortably could. I wasn’t trying to kill the ball, just make solid contact and get a good swing in.
I hit about 20 balls, and the launch monitor gave me a range of speeds. I jotted them down in my notes:
- My Driver Club Head Speed (Range): 90-98 mph.
The Verdict
Well, there it is. I’m nowhere near PGA Tour average. It’s not a huge surprise, those guys are professionals! But it does give me a good baseline to work from. It was actually lower than I thought it would be, so I have some work to do.
It just gave me a clear picture of my power, and something to aim for if I want to improve my game. I need to keep practicing and keep working on my swing.
