Alright, let’s talk about them 1986 Chicago Bears, ya hear? That year, them fellas were somethin’ else, lemme tell ya. They had a real good team, won a whole bunch of games. 14 wins and only 2 losses, can ya believe it? Folks were sayin’ they were the best, and I reckon they weren’t far off.
Now, I ain’t no expert on this football stuff, but even I could see them Bears were special. They had this quarterback, Jim McMahon, he was a tough one. Threw the ball real good, they said. And that running back, Walter Payton, sweet sugar, he could run like the wind! They called him “Sweetness,” and I guess that fit. He ran for over 1500 yards that year, a whole heap of yards, I tell ya.
- Jim McMahon: Quarterback, threw the ball real good.
- Walter Payton: Running back, ran like the wind, they called him “Sweetness”.
Them Bears, they were in the National Football Conference Central Division, and they won that division easy. Then they went on to the playoffs, tryin’ to win it all again. See, they won the Super Bowl the year before, in ’85, and folks were hopin’ they could do it again. It was the first time in the whole football league a team had won 14 or more games two years in a row, imagine that!
Now, I don’t remember all the names of them players, too many for this old brain. But they had a kicker, Kevin Butler, he was good at gettin’ them points. And a whole bunch of other fellas, big and strong, runnin’ and catchin’ and hittin’ hard. They had a real good coach too, but I can’t recall his name right now. He knew what he was doin’, though, that’s for sure.
They had a good schedule that year, played a lot of games. And they scored a lot of points, more than most teams. Folks were always talkin’ ’bout their offense, that’s when they got the ball and try to score. And their defense, well, they were tough as nails too. Didn’t let the other teams score much, that’s for sure. They had stats for all that stuff, how many yards they ran and threw, and all that. I never paid much attention to them numbers, but folks seemed to like ’em.
They had stories and photos and videos and even those podcast things about them Bears. Everybody wanted to know about ’em. They were a big deal, I tell ya. They even had a draft, where they picked new players, but I don’t know much about that neither.
So, them 1986 Chicago Bears, they were a real good team. Won a lot of games, had some great players. Folks still talk about ’em, even now, all these years later. They almost won it all again, but sometimes things just don’t work out the way you want. Still, they were somethin’ special, them Bears. A real good bunch of fellas.
I heard tell they had odds and all for the games, folks bettin’ on who would win. And they kept track of all kinds of things, like who caught the most passes and all that. They even had a roster, that’s a list of all the players, in case you wanted to know their names. You could find it all if you looked, but I just liked watchin’ ’em play. It was excitin’, ya know?
So that’s what I remember about them 1986 Chicago Bears. A real good team, tough and talented. They made folks proud, that’s for sure. And that’s all there is to it, plain and simple.
