My Columbus Crew Orlando City Weekend Saga
So, yeah, the Columbus Crew Orlando City thing. I remember that weekend pretty clearly, actually. Not ’cause of the game itself, mind you, but ’cause everything kinda went sideways for me.

I saw the fixture pop up. Columbus Crew playing Orlando City. Thought, okay, maybe I’ll actually go this time. Haven’t been to a live game in ages. Felt like a good idea, you know? Get out of the house.
First step: Rally the troops. Or, well, troop. Just my buddy, Mark. Gave him a call. “Hey, Crew vs Orlando, you in?” He sounded keen. Said he’d check his schedule, see if the wife needed him for anything.
While waiting, I started looking into it. Tickets. Man, oh man. Either the decent seats were gone, or they cost an arm and a leg. Seriously, prices are nuts these days. Started thinking, is it really worth the drive, the parking hassle, the expensive stadium beer? Started having second thoughts right there.
Then Mark calls back. And guess what? Murphy’s Law, right?
- His kid picked up some bug from school.
- Wife needed him home.
- He was out.
Okay. Plan B? Go alone? Nah, wasn’t feeling it. The whole point was to hang out, have a laugh. Going solo, paying those prices… the energy just fizzled out for me. Felt pretty bummed, honestly. Looked forward to it, then poof.
Switching Gears
So, what did I do? Threw in the towel on the live game idea. Decided, fine, I’ll just watch it from my couch like usual. Way cheaper, way less hassle.
Went down to the local store. Grabbed some chips, couple of beers. The essentials. Got back home, fired up the TV, found the right channel. Plopped down on the sofa. Felt kinda lame compared to being there, but hey, it was comfortable. No crowds, no queues for the restroom.
Watched the whole match. Texted Mark a bit during halftime, complaining about a bad call or whatever. It was… okay. Just another game on TV, really. Not the big event I’d initially pictured.

End result? Saved some cash, avoided traffic, but missed out on that live atmosphere. Sometimes plans just fall apart, you know? Like a team’s defense on a bad day. You just gotta roll with it, grab some snacks, and watch it unfold from your couch. Wasn’t the plan, but it worked out alright in the end. Simple as that.
