Okay, folks, gather ’round, let me tell you about my little adventure with the referee assignments for week 14. It wasn’t exactly a walk in the park, I gotta say.
It all started when I got this idea to organize the referee schedules for our local football league. I thought, “Hey, this shouldn’t be too hard, right?” Boy, was I in for a surprise!
First off, I needed to collect all the necessary information. I made a bunch of phone calls, sent out a flurry of emails, and even dusted off my old rolodex. You know, the one with all the phone numbers scribbled down? Yeah, that one. Anyway, I managed to get a hold of all the referees, their availability, and the match schedules.
Gathering Referee Availability
- Reached out to each referee individually. Old school phone calls mostly.
- Sent follow-up emails to confirm their available dates and times.
- Cross-checked with their existing commitments. Turns out, some of them had other games!
Next up, I tried to create the assignments. Let me tell ya, this is where the real fun began. I had this giant spreadsheet, and I was moving names around like a crazy person. Trying to match everyone’s availability with the game times was a real headache. I was constantly juggling, trying to make sure everyone was happy, and the games were covered. The coffee was my constant friend during this part.
Creating the Assignments
- Created a massive spreadsheet with all the matches and referees.
- Started assigning referees based on their availability and experience.
- Realized quickly it was a giant puzzle. Had to do a lot of re-arranging!
After hours of staring at my computer screen, I finally had a draft. But wait, there’s more! I had to run it by the league coordinators. So, I shot them an email, fingers crossed. Of course, they came back with a few changes, a couple of swaps here and there. Back to the drawing board, or rather, back to the spreadsheet.
Finally, after a few more rounds of revisions, we had a final version. I sent it out to all the referees, and phew, it was done! I leaned back in my chair, feeling like I’d just climbed Mount Everest. It was definitely more challenging than I expected, but hey, we got it done. And you know what? I learned a lot. Maybe next time, I’ll try a different approach, maybe find some fancy software to help. But for now, I’m just glad it’s over!
