Okay, so I spent some time digging into this whole Ariel Helwani and OJ Simpson thing recently. It wasn’t really planned, just kinda happened.

I was just browsing, you know how it is, clicking around. Then I saw a clip pop up, Helwani talking about Simpson or maybe it was Simpson talking about Helwani, I forget exactly how it started. It caught my eye because, well, it’s OJ Simpson, and Helwani is that MMA guy, right? Seemed like an odd mix.
My Process
So, first thing I did was just search their names together. See what the actual connection was. Found out Helwani actually interviewed Simpson. That surprised me a bit.
- I pulled up the interview. Had to find a decent version, took a few tries.
- Sat down and decided to watch it properly, not just skim. Wanted to see the dynamic.
- Listened carefully to the questions Helwani asked and how Simpson responded.
Observations
Watching it was… interesting. Helwani has his style, pretty direct. He didn’t shy away from some stuff, seemed like. And Simpson, he was just being himself, I guess. The whole conversation felt a bit surreal, if I’m honest. You got this sports journalist, known for MMA, talking to OJ Simpson.
I paid attention to the flow. Sometimes it felt tense, other times just like a regular, albeit strange, interview. Noticed how Helwani tried to navigate the conversation. It’s a tough spot to be in, interviewing someone like that. What do you ask? How deep do you go?
Then I looked around a bit more, saw some reactions to the interview online. People had strong opinions, obviously. That’s always part of the process, seeing what the general chatter is after I’ve formed my own initial thoughts.
Final Thoughts
Didn’t really come away with some big revelation. It was more just an exercise in observation. Seeing how these two very different public figures interacted. It definitely stuck in my mind for a bit afterwards. Just one of those weird internet deep dives you do sometimes. Added it to my mental log of strange media moments I’ve looked into.
