Alright, so I’ve been sinking a ton of hours into Baldur’s Gate 3, like, seriously lost track of time. Heard some buzz about finding ‘private dialogues’ between the companions, stuff you don’t normally see just clicking on them.

Naturally, I got curious. My first thought was, maybe I’m just missing stuff? So I started playing differently. Instead of rushing from quest to quest, I slowed right down. Started talking to everyone, all the time. Clicked on Gale, then Shadowheart, then back to Gale. Nothing much new, just the usual lines mostly.
Trying Different Things
Okay, plan A didn’t really work. So I figured, maybe it depends on who’s in the party? Like, maybe Lae’zel only says certain things if Karlach isn’t around, or something like that. So I started experimenting.
- I’d leave camp with just two companions.
- Tried different pairings – the goody-two-shoes together, the morally grey ones.
- Sometimes I’d just park my character somewhere nearby and just… listen. See if they’d chat when I wasn’t directly involved.
Took a lot of swapping people in and out at camp. Felt like I was managing a complicated social club sometimes. Went back to places I’d already cleared, thinking maybe location triggered something. Like, would Astarion say something snarky about Cazador’s place only if, say, Wyll was with him?
Camp was another big focus. I started hitting that Long Rest button a lot more. Not just when I needed spells, but just to see if resting triggered unique conversations. Spent ages just hanging around the campfire, watching them mill about. Sometimes you’d catch little snippets, like one companion walking over to another, but often it was just them warming their hands or whatever.
Did it Work?
Yeah, eventually, I started catching things. It wasn’t always super obvious. Sometimes it was just a quick line exchanged when walking down a path. Other times, back at camp, maybe after a big story event, two characters would have a quiet word off to the side. You really gotta keep your eyes and ears open.
It wasn’t some magic button. A lot of it seemed random, or tied to specific points in the story and who happened to be standing near whom. You couldn’t really force it consistently, which was kinda frustrating sometimes. Felt like I spent hours just trying to eavesdrop on my own team.
But yeah, those little moments, when you catch Gale and Wyll having a chat about Mystra, or Shadowheart and Lae’zel having one of their tense exchanges without you prompting it… it adds something. Makes them feel a bit more alive, you know? Like they actually have relationships with each other outside of just following you around. So, worth the effort? I reckon so, if you’re really into the characters like I am.
