Okay, so let’s talk about those Chinese New Year Kyrie shoes. I remember when the buzz started building up around them. Saw some pictures online, you know, the usual leaks and previews. Thought they looked pretty sharp, different from the usual stuff.

I wasn’t planning on getting them, not really a big sneaker collector type anymore. Got too much stuff as it is. But then Chinese New Year was actually coming up, and I thought, why not? Treat myself, get something a bit festive for the season. Seemed like a fun idea at the time.
Trying to Track Them Down
So, I decided, right, let’s find a pair. Easier said than done, turns out. First thing I did was check the usual big online spots. Gone. Sold out instantly, like always with these limited drops. Didn’t surprise me much.
Then I thought about local stores. Made a few calls. No luck there either. Most places didn’t even get them, or they had like two pairs that vanished the second they opened the doors. Started feeling like maybe this wasn’t meant to be.
- Checked online sneaker forums – people asking crazy prices.
- Looked at resale apps – same deal, prices were just silly.
- Asked a buddy who’s more into this stuff – he just laughed.
It was getting a bit ridiculous, honestly. Just for a pair of shoes. Started thinking maybe it wasn’t worth the hassle. You know, life’s busy, got other things to worry about than chasing sneakers.
A Bit of Luck
Almost gave up. Then I was just browsing randomly one afternoon, not even looking for shoes specifically. Popped onto some smaller retailer’s site I hadn’t checked before. And guess what? They had my size. Couldn’t believe it. Must have been a return or a late stock update, who knows.
Didn’t even think twice. Added to cart, checked out as fast as my fingers could type. Half expected the order to get cancelled, you know? Like it was a mistake on their site. But nope, got the confirmation email. Then the shipping notification.
Getting Them and Wearing Them
The box showed up a few days later. Felt kinda excited, like a kid again for a minute. Opened them up. Yeah, they looked good. The colors were bright, lots of little details related to the New Year theme. Quality felt decent, standard Nike stuff.
First thing I did was try them on. Walked around the house a bit. Felt alright, pretty comfortable for basketball shoes.

Wore them out quite a bit during the actual Chinese New Year period. Felt appropriate, you know? Matched the vibe. Got a few comments, mostly from younger folks who recognized what they were. It was kind of fun.
After the holiday buzz faded, I wore them less. They’re nice shoes, but they’re also pretty loud, visually. Not really an everyday kind of thing for me anymore. They ended up back in the box, on a shelf.
Looking back, it was a bit of a chase. Fun while it lasted, getting caught up in the hunt. But at the end of the day, they’re just shoes. Cool shoes, yeah, with a nice theme. But the effort to get them was probably more memorable than the shoes themselves. It’s funny how that works sometimes. You chase something, get it, and then you’re already thinking about the next thing. Anyway, that was my little adventure with the CNY Kyries.
