Okay, so I’ve been digging into this whole UFC thing, specifically the fighters coming out of New Mexico. It’s a pretty interesting scene, and I figured I’d share my little journey here.
I started by just poking around, you know, seeing what names kept popping up. One of the first things I noticed was this “The Ultimate Fighter” reality show that the UFC runs. Turns out, a guy from Albuquerque, Edwin Cooper Jr., was on the recent season, TUF 32. That got me curious, so I started looking into other fighters from the area.
I found this website that lists a bunch of New Mexico MMA events and fighters. They had news, results, the whole nine yards. It was a good starting point. Then I stumbled on another page that was even better – a sortable list of fighters from New Mexico. You could sort them by different stuff, which was super helpful.
Then there’s this kid, Raul Rosas Jr. This guy is nuts! He’s only 18 and he became the youngest fighter to ever win a UFC fight. That’s crazy! I watched some clips of his fight, and the kid’s got skills. He’s from Clovis, apparently. It’s always cool to see young talent like that make it big.
- Found a reality show called “The Ultimate Fighter.”
- Discovered a local fighter, Edwin Cooper Jr., was on the show.
- Found websites listing New Mexico MMA events and fighters.
- Learned about Raul Rosas Jr., the youngest UFC winner, from Clovis.
Another name that kept coming up was Diego Sanchez. He’s an older fighter, born in Albuquerque back in ’81. I checked out some of his old fights too, he’s a legend! It looks like Albuquerque has a pretty strong MMA gym, Jackson’s MMA. I saw that four fighters from there were on a UFC card, including a guy named Rustam Khabilov.
I also started thinking about some of the most successful black UFC fighters. I found a website talking about the top nineteen Nigerian and Brazilian black UFC fighters, which was really interesting to me. It showed me that many fighters from different places and backgrounds can become successful in this sport.
What I’ve found
So, basically, I’ve been going down this rabbit hole of New Mexico UFC fighters. I started with a reality show, found some local event listings, discovered a young prodigy, and learned about some established fighters. It’s been a fun little project, and I’m definitely going to keep digging. There are so many stories to uncover, and I’m just getting started. And one more thing, I found out that the first ever Mexican born UFC champion is Brandon Moreno! Isn’t it amazing?
