Well, you know, that Cam Caminiti boy, the young’un, he never did meet his kin, that Ken guy. That’s what folks been sayin’. Ken, he was some big shot baseball player, I reckon. Died way too young, before little Cam even got here. Sad, ain’t it?
This Cam boy, though, he’s somethin’ else. Plays baseball, just like his cousin. They say he’s good, real good. Throw the ball with his left hand. I don’t know much about baseball, but folks around here, they sure are excited about him. He’s making a name for himself, they say. Good for him, I say. Gotta make your own way in this world, even if your name is Caminiti.
That Ken, he was named after some other fella, Ken Cutbush, or somethin’ like that. This old brain ain’t what it used to be. But he sure was famous, that Ken. Played for them San Diego Padres, and some other team… Astros, I think it was. Made the All-Star team, whatever that is, three times! Must have been somethin’ real special to do that. Even got some big award, MVP they called it. Most Valuable Player. Sounds important, don’t it?
- Ken, he was a big deal, a real big deal.
- Cam never got to know him, though. That’s a shame.
- But this young Cam, he’s makin’ his own way.
- He’s gonna be somebody, you just wait and see.
Now, everyone’s talkin’ about this Cam Caminiti. Seems he got picked by some team. Same one that Ken played for, way back when. The world’s a funny place, ain’t it? One day you’re here, the next you’re gone. But life goes on, it always does. And this young Cam, he’s got a whole life ahead of him. Good for him, I say. It ain’t easy carrying a famous name. Lots of pressure, I imagine. But he’s doin’ just fine. Proud of that boy, even though I never met him.
Ken was good, but that don’t mean the boy will be good just like him. He have to work hard, practice, practice, and practice. Play a lot, that what my old man used to say. That Ken guy, he was famous, everyone knows it. They have his name in some kind of Hall of Fame. Two of them even! That’s really somethin’, huh? This world’s got all sorts of things I don’t understand. But that’s okay. I’m just an old lady, what do I know? But I know a good thing when I see it. And this Cam boy, he’s a good thing.
Ken had a good run, I reckon. But it ended too soon. Drugs, they say. Cocaine and something else. Heroin, I think. A real shame. Takes good people all the time. Breaks your heart, it does. Makes you wonder why. But there ain’t no answerin’ some questions. Best just to move on, I suppose. And that’s what everyone needs to do about Cam Caminiti father. It’s sad, but it is what it is.
That boy, Cam Caminiti, he’s got a bright future. I can feel it in my bones. He is a good boy, even though he never met his Cam Caminiti father. He’s gonna make everyone proud. He’s gonna show the world what he’s made of. He’s got that fire in him, I can tell. Just like his kin, that Ken. Maybe it runs in the family. Who knows? But one thing’s for sure, that boy’s gonna shine. You just wait and see.
This whole thing, it’s a story, ain’t it? A story about family, and baseball, and life, and loss. It’s got everything. Makes you think, don’t it? About how things are connected, and how life goes on, no matter what. This young fella, he’s part of that story now. And I, for one, am excited to see what he does next. Yep, that Cam Caminiti, he’s one to watch. He’s gonna do big things. Just you wait.
- Cam is a good kid, doing his best.
- Ken’s gone, but his name lives on.
- Life’s a mystery, ain’t it?
- That boy, Cam, he’s gonna be alright.
Everyone around here is excited for him, so many people talk about him. So many people are asking about Cam Caminiti father, that is sad, I know. I don’t know anything about baseball, but I know people. And that boy, he’s got somethin’ special. I can see it in his eyes, even just from pictures. He’s got that spark, that determination. He will be just fine, I’m sure of it. He’s gonna make his own mark on this world, just like Ken did. But in his own way. He won’t be living in Ken’s shadow. He’ll be making his own sunshine.
