Getting Started with My MJ Rings Thing
Alright, so I had this idea buzzing around in my head for a bit. You know, thinking about Michael Jordan and those six championships. It’s just legendary stuff. I wasn’t trying to build a shrine or anything crazy, just wanted to put together something small, something visual, mostly for myself, to kind of mark that achievement.

Figuring Out the Plan
First off, I had to decide what I actually wanted to make. I thought about a drawing, maybe trying to get fancy, but honestly, my drawing skills are pretty basic. So, I figured a simple display board would be better. Something I could put up on a shelf.
So, the process started pretty simply:
- Needed a base. Found an old piece of wood in the garage, sanded it down a bit.
- Needed images. Spent some time searching online, not for anything super high-res, just clear pictures representing each championship year. Like, maybe a newspaper headline or a photo from the finals.
- Needed a way to represent the rings. I wasn’t buying replicas, way too much hassle. I decided to just print out simple, clean images of the six different championship rings.
Putting It All Together
Okay, got my stuff. Then I started the actual work. Printed out the images I found – the headlines and the ring pictures. Cut them out carefully. This took longer than I thought, trying to get the edges neat.
Then I laid everything out on the wood base. Moved things around quite a bit. Tried putting the rings in a line, then in two rows of three. Settled on two rows. Placed the corresponding year/headline snippet near each ring image.
Getting things stuck down was the next step. Just used some regular craft glue. Had to be careful not to use too much, didn’t want it squishing out the sides and looking messy. Held each piece down for a bit to make sure it stuck properly.
Little Hiccups and Thoughts
It wasn’t super complicated, but there were annoying bits. One of the headline images I printed was kinda blurry, so I had to go back and find a better one. And getting everything lined up straight took some patience. My eyes aren’t what they used to be, haha. Measuring things out helped a bit.
While I was doing this, it got me thinking back to watching some of those games. Feels like a different era now. It wasn’t really about making a perfect piece of art, more just connecting with that memory, that feeling of watching history happen.
The Final Look
So, after the glue dried, that was pretty much it. Got this simple wooden board, maybe about a foot wide. It has the six ring images laid out, with a little picture or headline clipping for each year (’91, ’92, ’93, ’96, ’97, ’98). Nothing fancy, like I said. But it sits on my shelf now. It’s a cool little reminder of that incredible run. Kinda proud I actually finished it instead of just thinking about it.
