Hey everyone, I’m back with another story from my everyday adventures, and this time it’s about volunteering at the WM Phoenix Open. I’ve always been a big fan of golf, and when I heard about the chance to volunteer at one of the biggest tournaments, I jumped at the opportunity.
First thing I did was look up how to volunteer. It turns out, every year they need a bunch of folks to help out. I found out that registration for the 2024 WM Phoenix Open was open, so I clicked on their link and signed up to be one of the nearly 3,750 volunteers. It felt like a big deal, being part of such a huge event.
After registering, I checked out the different committees I could join. There were so many options! They needed help in concession stands and a whole lot of other areas. I decided to go for a role that seemed pretty straightforward, thinking it would be a good way to dip my toes in the water.
I was told to sign up for shifts quickly because they fill up fast. I made sure to pick the ones that worked best for me, and before I knew it, I was all set. The whole sign-up process was a breeze.
Then came the day of the event. I got there super early because I heard the general admission seats at the 16th hole are first-come-first-served. I wanted to make sure I got a good spot to see all the action. I also noticed that handicap parking was right across from the main entrance, which was good to know.
When I got to the entrance, I went through the bag inspection. They were pretty strict about it. No opaque bags larger than 6″x 6″ x 6″ were allowed, and if you had a clear bag, it couldn’t be bigger than 12″x 6″x 12″. I had a small, clear bag, so I breezed right through. It was a bit of a hassle for some people, but I get it, they gotta keep things safe and secure.
Once inside, I found my assigned spot and started my volunteer duties. It was pretty hectic, with so many people around, but it was also super exciting. I got to see some of the best golfers up close and be part of the whole buzz. Everyone was in high spirits, and the energy was infectious.
Throughout the day, I helped out wherever I could, mostly guiding people and answering questions. It was tiring, but seeing everything run smoothly made it worth it. Plus, I got to chat with a bunch of different folks, which was pretty cool.
By the end of the day, I was exhausted, but it was a good kind of tired. I felt like I had really contributed to something big. It wasn’t just about watching golf; it was about being part of the whole event and making sure everyone had a great time.
So, that’s my story about volunteering at the WM Phoenix Open. It was a blast, and I’d definitely do it again. If any of you get the chance, I highly recommend it. It’s a great way to experience the tournament from a whole new perspective and meet some awesome people along the way.
Until next time, keep swinging and stay tuned for more of my everyday adventures!
